One-Pan Philly Cheesesteak Orzo Skillet

Creamy orzo skillet with beef, peppers, onions, and melted provolone cheese, garnished with parsley.

This skillet dish features tender orzo pasta cooked with savory beef, bell peppers, and onions, all brought together in a creamy sauce. The recipe takes about 30 minutes to prepare and serves 4 people.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound thinly sliced beef (or shaved steak)
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced (any color)
  • 2 cups orzo pasta
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup provolone cheese, shredded
  • Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Sauté Vegetables: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and bell pepper, and sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Cook the Beef: Add the thinly sliced beef to the skillet, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add Orzo and Broth: Stir in the orzo pasta and beef broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the orzo is cooked and most of the liquid is absorbed.
  4. Stir in Cream: Once the orzo is tender, stir in the heavy cream and half of the provolone cheese until melted and creamy.
  5. Serve: Top with the remaining provolone cheese and let it melt. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired, and serve hot.
