Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef or lamb
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Cook the Meat: In a large skillet, brown the ground meat over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrots, and garlic, cooking until the vegetables are tender.
  3. Add Seasoning: Stir in the tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 5 minutes until slightly thickened. Add the frozen peas and mix well.
  4. Prepare the Potatoes: While the meat is cooking, boil the cubed potatoes in a pot of salted water until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and return to the pot.
  5. Make the Mash: Add the milk, butter, and half of the parmesan cheese to the potatoes. Mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Assemble the Pie: In a baking dish, spread the meat mixture evenly. Top with the creamy parmesan mashed potatoes, smoothing it out with a spatula. Sprinkle the remaining parmesan cheese on top.
  7. Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  8. Serve: Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
